These are the Terms and Conditions for advertising with the Careers Centre. All interested employers must read all the conditions. The links for this page are aimed at helping you to more easily navigate the page and refer back to this information as needed.

Terms and Conditions Requirements
- The following Terms and Conditions (“T&C”) apply to employment advertising submitted by prospective employers (“Advertisers”) to the University of Sydney Careers Centre website (“USCCW”)
- By agreeing to these T&C, Advertisers have agreed to the University of Sydney’s (“the University”) Privacy Policy located at: www.usyd.edu.au/privacy.
- If Advertisers do not agree to abide by these T&C, do not proceed further.
- The University is committed to supporting EEO principles and practices which do not discriminate against any individual or group and Advertisers agree to comply with these principles and practices.
- The University, in operating the USCCW is merely a passive conduit for the on-line distribution and publication of information regarding prospective employment opportunities. The University makes no representations about the accuracy, reliability, completeness or timeliness of material submitted to the USCCW by Advertisers. The material may contain inaccuracies or typographical errors. Advertiser’s use of the USCCW is at the Advertisers own risk.
- The material contained on the USCCW, the software, design, text, graphics and layout comprising the USCCW are owned or licensed to the University and are protected by copyright. Advertisers are not authorised to use or modify any of the trade marks or logos (registered or unregistered) on the USCCW without the written permission of the University.
- Advertisers must not alter, copy, republish, frame, download, upload to a third party, send, transmit or distribute the content of the USCCW in any way or for any commercial purpose except as expressly provided for by the University and expressly authorised in writing by the University.
- The University accepts ads submitted in good faith on the basis of warranties provided by each Advertiser.
- Advertisers warrant that they will not use the USCCW for any purpose that is unlawful. Advertiser must not use, or attempt to use, or post to the USCCW abusive, obscene, vulgar, offensive, defamatory, hateful, threatening, discriminatory or pornographic material.
- The University may suspend, terminate or limit Advertiser’s access to the USCCW at any time, with or without notice if:
- Advertiser are in breach of these T&C;
- required by law; or
- the University receives complaints in relation to an Advertisers use of the USCCW.
- By requesting information to be submitted to the USCCW, Advertisers are agreeing that the information is non-confidential for all purposes. Advertisers are granting permission to the public to use, copy, distribute and display their communications. The University reserves the right to refuse, alter or withdraw submitted information posted on the USCCW at any time and for any reason.
- By using the USCCW, Advertisers are liable to the University for breach of contract or negligence under legislation and common law. By using the USCCW, Advertisers agree to indemnify the University and its officers, employees and agents, against all claims, demands, damages, costs, penalties and liabilities caused by and Advertisers breach of these T&C.
- The University does not warrant or represent that the information advertised in ads on the USCCW will be suitable for any particular purpose, or that an Advertiser has any particular qualifications or is legally entitled to carry on a particular business.
- The terms and conditions that apply to the University’s supply of the USCCW are those that are set out in this document and those implied by Commonwealth and State consumer protection laws to the supply of this service that are unable to be excluded.
- Where a statute implies in these T&C any term, and that statute voids or prohibits provisions under these T&C which exclude or modify the operation of such term, such term is deemed to be included in these T&C.
- The University of Sydney reserves the right to provide a copy of all information submitted to the USCCW to assist users taking any action against other users where there is a dispute between parties.
- Any communications or notice sent by the University to Advertiser in relation to Advertiser’s use of the USCCW, are not intended to endorse or guarantee the content of Advertisers’ submissions. The University does not endorse or approve any information provided by Advertisers to other users of the USCCW and it is an Advertiser’s responsibility to exercise caution and practice safe advertising when submitting material to the USCCW.
- The University does not accept liability of Advertisers in any form of loss which Advertisers may incur though the usage of the USCCW including but not limited to the following:
- Any losses that result from Advertisers’ use of University services in connection with the conduct of a business.
- Any loss to the extent it is connected with any dispute between and Advertiser and one or more other users of the USCCW, including in relation to transactions entered into with other users of the USCCW.
- Any loss to the extent that it is caused by an Advertiser (for example, through and Advertiser’s negligence or breach of contract).
- Any losses to the extent that it results from an Advertiser failure to take reasonable steps to avoid or minimise its loss.
- Any losses caused by the University failing to comply with its obligations to an Advertiser where that loss is caused by events outside the University’s reasonable control (such as a malfunction in equipment or software, Internet access difficulties or delay or failure of transmission). Any losses caused by the alteration, withdrawal or restoration of any material in accordance with these T&C.
- These T&Cs are governed by the law in force in Australia and its states and territories. By using the USCCW, Advertisers submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of those places.
All job advertisements submitted must comply with Commonwealth and NSW law
Pursuant to above, Advertisers shall not advertise in a way which discriminates against a person or section of the community on account of their sex (including pregnancy), sexual preference, transgender status, race, color, ethnic or ethno-religious background, descent or national identity, marital status, family responsibilities, disability, age, political conviction or religious belief.

All Advertisers must provide the following information
a. The name of the individual or organisation advertising the job vacancy.
b. The name and contact details (email, phone and fax) of a contact person.
c. The address and phone number of the organisation, individual or contact person.
d. The organisation’s website, if available, or alternatively brief information about the organisation and industry.
e. The organisation's ABN, where one exists.
f. An adequate description of the nature of the work being offered. This should include:
- Job title
- Description / duties
- Skills required
- Experience required
- Faculties targeted
- Hours offered
- Location
- Rate of pay
- Application closing date
If an Advertiser wishes to advertise an internship or work experience role, the University requires the Advertiser to accurately detail the nature of the work using the headings above. These advertisements also require that the Advertiser demonstrates the relevance of the role to the student’s studies and outline the benefit to the student in undertaking this role.
The University reserves the right to amend advertisements for clarity and addition of extra information.
Special Conditions - Recruitment Agencies and other Third Party Recruiters
a. Third party recruiters must provide the name of the client organisation to the University of Sydney Careers Centre, if requested to do so.
b. The University of Sydney Careers Centre will not disclose the name of the client organisation unless required to do so by law or at the behest of the recruitment agency.
c. Only genuine job vacancies are to be submitted.
Voluntary Work
a. Voluntary Work is defined as an activity that is undertaken usually in not-for-profit organisations, where no financial payment is received for an Advertiser’s service. As such, preference will be given to voluntary work offered by not-for-profit and community organisations.
b. The work must be of relevance to industries or professions that are available to graduates.
c. All positions will be subject to approval by University of Sydney Careers Centre staff before being advertised to students.
Advertisements not Accepted by the University of Sydney Careers Centre
a. Commission-only jobs.
b. “Business Opportunities”.
c. Work involving any unpaid training / trial periods, or reduced pay for such periods, except where a Federal or State award makes allowances for such arrangements.
d. Work involving any illegal activity.
e. Any work which requires the employee to purchase a product or service, or offer a security deposit or similar as a condition of employment.
f. Any advertisement for a role in a tobacco company.
g. Any advertisement not advertising a genuine employment opportunity.
Complaints Procedure
In the instance that a University student or graduate makes a complaint about an advertiser using this service, the following procedure will apply:
a. The complaint will be documented.
b. The advertiser will be contacted for a ‘right of reply’.
c. An advertiser will be informed, where practicable, verbally or in writing if the advertisement is withdrawn or if access to the service is refused.
d. In cases where the complaint reveals that information provided in the advertisement was false or misleading then the advertisement will be withdrawn immediately.
Miscellaneous Information
a. Advertisers can lodge job advertisements via the Internet at any time.
b. All advertisements will be reviewed by staff of the University of Sydney Careers Centre before being made available for access by students / graduates.
c. Advertisements are processed Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm (EST), except for public holidays and University holidays.
d. The University does not act as an agent for the Advertiser. Students interested in applying for positions will make direct contact with the Advertiser.
